Curve Build FAQ - WIP

Frequently Asked Questions

1. what is curve build / what the typical reasons for needing one are?

Curve Build is a tool inside of Molecule that allows you to build formulas for forward curves. It is scheduled to run automatically and provide daily updates to ensure curves reflect the most accurate and current market data for marking, settling, and valuation.

Simple formulas are normally NG + Basis + Hub or ISO + Basis + Hub.

2. how the old curve builder works at a basic level (including variations)

  • Jess Framework – each customer has its own repo

  • 2nd curve build was built for Radiance – around the clock

Jess Framework Steps:

  • Build the Curve Build Template.

  • Then create the YAML file by cutting and pasting into a txt. file

  • Submit a Linear Ticket to create a GitLab project.

  • Login to GitLab project to confirm you can access your YAML file, from here you will edit, validate, and confirm curves are calculating and running by viewing the marks, valuations and settled data.

3.how the new one works at a basic level (including limitations) - and how to turn it on and set up permissions?

https://help.molecule.io/article/rl9s0ahs84-curve-builder

  • Login to Molecule

  • In the Mirage App – Select Curve Builder (this evolved over the last 2+ years)

  • Mirage app has a curve builder feature that creates curve formulas to define a product and a formula to create market data for that product.

  • The app automatically finds relevant formulas and builds curves based on available data.

  • Generic Audit History screen can easily be added to grids.

  • Gas is a primary user and any commodity that is physical. Power users use curve builder as well.

  • Limitations: no download option, no documentation on API Endpoint - there is API. Curves are built and managed via the Molecule app

  • Permission is turned on via the “Market Data Admin” under Settings – restricted to users who have specific permissions.

  • Mirage App will be the new UI framework by the end of the year to build more components within Molecule.

  • This is offered in Core and Enterprise

  • Future features – troubleshooting debug button where you can pass on as of date, test the output marks to make sure it computes correctly before including in a valuation run.

4. what we are migrating (types of products and curve builds), and for whom – Physical Gas, Power,

Buffalo - migrating of the existing curve build

Caffeine

Alloy

Hermes

Vinny

Nitro

Booster

5.What we are not migrating yet, and why. Which customers are eligible for migration, which are not.

Radiance - Around the clock curve build to handle on and off peak

Nakatomi - new customer

Auric - new customer

RockStar - new customer

Genesis - new customer

6.what exactly it means to migrate a curve build in this context

a.Schedule a demo of New Curve Build

7. where exposures fit into all of this

a. Exposures are defaulted to be created inside of new curve builder. The formula parser has the logic built into, so it made it easier to include certain components. There is an account setting that allows the flag to be turned on or off to all for exposures to be included.

i. Exposure can be turned on and off. There is a flag to allow for exposures

Use Cases for customers:

1. Radiance – Power

  • Around the clock – curve build – power products

  • Peak and off peak and detail calendar hours

  • Hours to weight the peak and off peak and what is the reason they need it

  • ICE publish peak and off peak but does not publish around the clock.
